Jonathan Adler Shares 5 Tips To Decorating Your Nursery

August 24, 2016

Jonathan Adler x Fisher Price

Earlier this week we celebrated the new Jonathan Adler Crafted by Fisher-Price collection of chic and modern baby gear, nursery furniture and decor, and the man behind them. The entire collection is so glam you’ll want to bring it out of the nursery and put it on display in any room. Jonathan’s black and white palette with pops of color is sophisticated yet playful and will go perfectly in a nursery or even your living room.

He gave us these 5 tips to decorating your nursery:

1. The main lighting fixtures should be something you want to live with forever- and make sure its dimmable. The table lamps are where you can be fun and irreverent.

2. Try to stick to a high contrast color palette. The people at Fisher-Price told me that kids respond to high contrast colors (like black and white) as much as I do.

3. Start with a good quality rug. I love Peruvian flat weaves. They are handmade by craftspeople in Peru and are soft durable and – and groovy.

4. You are going to spend a lot of time in the nursery so fill it with soft and squishy pillows and throws.

5. I’m a fan of warm and honey colored woods in the nursery. They look good now, and they’ll look good as baby grows

Jonathan answered all of our burning questions on how to make our nursery feel like a glamour oasis of style; think giraffes, sleek wood, and squishy pillows galore. What’s his go-to gift from the collection??? It’s also a mama fave – the Rock ‘n Play Sleeper.

#StrongLikeAMama: HEYMAMAS Sweat It Out At The Surf Lodge

August 4, 2016

heymama event , sponsored gifts self towels + feel good protein

Since becoming a mama, fitness and being more mindful of wellness has jumped to the top of my priority list, because not only am I responsible for my own body and mind, but for the wellbeing of my little ones. As a busy mama, juggling business and family, makes taking good care of our bodies a necessity, and let’s face it, no matter how comforting that couch and pizza is in the moment, the human body feels way better when you live a healthy and active lifestyle. To help inspire other mamas to live more mindfully, this past weekend we partnered with SELF and The Surf Lodge for our #StrongLikeAMama event.

After arriving in style in our Audi Q7 and grabbing a juice from the bar (compliments of Bluestone Lane), we headed out back and started the event with a butt kicking work out from Dasha Anderson, fitness expert and the creator of the KB Fit Flow method. After getting our sweat on, we gathered in the sand, sipped smoothies from Fuel Good Protein, and listened to a panel that included inspiring women Liz Plosser, Jacq Tatelman, Jill Foley, and Dasha Anderson as they shared their experiences and perspectives on balancing fitness, family, and business.

We ended the afternoon with a brunch and loved watching the mamas mingle and make connections over mango smoothie bowls and avocado toast.  The Surf Lodge created a custom menu for our event and being served water-side was the perfect way to close an event before our mamas took off with their STATE Bag filled swag bags that included Boll and Branch beach towels, The Ritualist face masks, cute ass Parasol diapers, a Helen Ficalora mom necklace, the new issue of SELF, Ilia Beauty‘s bestselling “Arabian Nights” lipstick, Peloton CycleOutdoor Voices and Botanica Bazaar discount cards, and Skip Hop beach blankets.

For every ticket to #StrongLikeAMama sold we donated a backpack to an American kid in need.

Here’s What You Missed At The Great Jane, Ojai Edition

June 15, 2016

We’re still tingling from the magical weekend spent surrounded by an incredible tribe of women; mothers, doers, thinkers and women with heart at The Great Jane. Heymama, Bash Please and Modern Nomad came together to bring together two key areas of a mother’s life that enabled her to pursue her dreams – wellness & entrepreneurship. Aptly called The Great Jane, it was truly an unheralded retreat for aspiring mamas looking to hit pause on their life for a moment, allowing them to connect with themselves and other like-minded women, ultimately inspiring their next chapter both professionally and creatively.

We all left feeling lighter, stronger freer. It’s hard to put your finger on just one piece of the weekend that sparked a fire in our hearts and allowed us to be real and open, and to connect to one another. We learned so quickly how some really successful women are doing it each their own way. Everyone at The Great Jane, from the speakers to the attendees, to the mentors, and panelist gave something special to the collective spirit and came away with something just as precious. It was the women that made the weekend, every Jane. A little peak into the magic, below….

Mama makers Fat & Moon, Rachel Craven and Juniper + Fir led creative workshops with the gorgeous backdrop of Ojai behind us.

March 17, 2016
London Scout The City

First up on the #HMplaydate style series is Sai, from Scout the City, and her bestie Brooke, from
Somewhere Lately. They explored Dumbo riding the carousel, eating ice cream and getting balloons for the girls. We asked them a few fun questions to see how well they know each other. The mamas and their little ones were decked out in H&M‘s spring fashions.

How well do you know your bestie quiz?

1) What do you love most about your friend?

B: She’s sweet, understandable and a great mom.
S: Her easy-going spirit; she’s down for anything.

2) What do you think she appreciates most about you?

B: My loyalty and easygoing attitude.
S: My honesty, sense of humor, and spontaneity.

3) Her favorite thing about you is?

B: I’m ambitious.
S: My fun-loving attitude.

4) Best memory of you and your kids together?

B: The ice cream fight the girls got into.
S: Riding the carousel in DUMBO – we (the moms) were experiencing motion sickness while the girls were having a blast!

5) How are you parenting styles different?

B: She resides in the city, and I live outside the city, so she has more of a liberal nature as far as exploring the city, travel, etc., whereas I’m a little more protective (we moved out of the city before Sophia turned two).
S: I’m more laid back and she is more strict.

6) Best piece of parenting advice she’s given you?

B: Don’t get in the habit of letting the kids sleep in your bed.
S: Prepare your child for the path, not the path for you child (she didn’t make this up though, don’t let her fool you).

7) How would she describe herself in three words?

B: Humorous, outgoing and witty.
S: Fun, loyal, and easygoing.

8) How does she react to her kid’s tantrums?

B: She ignores them.
S: She doesn’t.

9) Name her favorite TV show? Favorite guilty pleasure tv show?

B: This changes frequently, but currently it’s a show called “Billions” on Showtime. A guilty pleasure TV show is probably one of the “Love & Hip Hop” shows (she’s too embarrassed to actually admit that).
S: “Scandal,” I think. Guilty pleasure TV shows are the “Housewives” series, and “Total Divas” (that’s embarrassing).

10) Funniest thing she’s ever done?

B: She was driving while day-dreaming and swerved because she saw a tree…but she realized it was only the tree air-freshener hanging in the car.
S: When walking into a crowded restaurant, she walked into a glass door (thinking it was open).

11) If you spend a date together with your kids, what would she want to do most?

B: She would definitely want to go shopping and get something sweet to eat!
S: Brunch, shopping, and a park date.

12) If your friend could take a trip anywhere in the world, where would it be?

B: Bora Bora
S: Bora Bora

13) Most perfect day for your friend  “sans kids”?

B: Lunch and shopping at Bergdorfs.
S: Probably a spa day in the city – nothing better than relaxing without having to worry about what the kids are doing!

14) What’s a guilty pleasure that she wouldn’t want to admit?

B: She loves going to new restaurants that are popular (and hard to get a reservation at). She can appreciate a challenge, and if you know her…you know she usually gets her way ;).
S: Requesting the best table in a restaurant every time she makes a reservation…but hey, if you don’t ask, you won’t receive!

15) If your friend could have one wish what would it be?

B: Sorry to sound like a Hallmark card…but she would probably wish that all children could be loved and adored.
S: To live forever in a happy world!

16) Who is your friend’s style icon?

B: She gets a lot of her Inspiration from Instagram, Pinterest, and the streets of NYC. If I had to choose I would say Nicole Richie and Elle Ferguson (Instagram).
S: I think she draws inspiration from a lot of different places, but if she had one style icon it would probably be Monica Rose (celebrity stylist).

17) If she could be anyone for a day who would it be?

B: She wouldn’t want to be anyone else, she loves her life!
S: Her husband just to see how fantastic it is being married to her…just kidding, she’s happy being herself!

HEYMAMA X NYDJ Brooklyn Breakfast

August 21, 2015
jacq tatelman

They say that looking good and feeling good are a big part of being able to achieve your goals, and we think parties are also important.  So when super flattering denim line NYDJ approached us about co-hosting  a breakfast at V.P. of Marketing Kate Foster’s gorgeous Brooklyn brownstone to get creative working mamas together, we jumped at the chance.  Guests strolled into Kate’s home in Park Slope to mingle with other creative goddesses about what they do, eat ricotta and peach toast, get pampered and try on their ultra slimming jeans.  Not only did everyone get a pair new denim, but these ladies were treated to a selection of NYDJ’s work essentials to take home with them.

Who doesn’t want a little morning pretty on a hot day in the city? The Stylisted did make-up touch ups and custom braids to freshen up everyone’s look after the commute to Park Slope (do you know how far that is on the train?)  and because we are not Amber Fillerup, although we would not mind that at all. After strolling down the spiral staircase we stopped to smell white bouquets of lilies and roses (courtesy of Williamsburg based Rose, Red & Lavender) and glided down the outdoor stairs to a sprawling garden.  After our fill of tasty bites by Table-BK , we chatted and played dress-up until it was time to head off for the work day.

The morning was so lovely, it was almost better than the European vacation we’re pretending to be jetting off to next week.
