Just about an hour away from bustling New York City is the quaint town of New Canaan, Connecticut. This picturesque suburban town doesn’t have the noise of the busy city but it does have a warm sense of community. Between restaurants and amazing outdoor spaces, New Canaan has a variety of locations to make weekend plans with the family a true adventure! Kelli Bussan, heymama member and founder of The Kelli Chronicles, a lifestyle blog covering fashion, food and life stories, shared more about New Canaan featuring some of her must-see places. Read on…

Kelli, we would love to hear more about your website!

I am the founder of the lifestyle website The Kelli Chronicles, wife to a wonderful husband, mother to two teenage girls, and a native Texan finding her way in the Connecticut suburbs. The Kelli Chronicles is part fashion blog, part cookbook and part social calendar that’s filled with everyday life stories. I like to share the sweet stories of raising teenage girls, honest stories about how life gets better with age, and what to wear to keep you looking chic (while being trendy and age-appropriate).

What do you love about New Canaan?

New Canaan, Connecticut is a little too perfect but that is what I love about it. It is your quintessential New England town. Most of the restaurants and stores are independently-owned, but they also have staples like J.Crew. It’s also the most wonderful place to raise a family. I love that my girls can go into town with their friends and are safe.

What is the best place to go with the kids?

The New Canaan Nature Center and Waveny Park.

Grace Farms

What’s your favorite undiscovered hot spot in New Canaan?

I love Grace Farms! The building at Grace Farms, designed by SANAA, is seamlessly integrated into 80 acres of open space for people to experience nature, encounter the arts, pursue justice, foster community, and explore faith.

I love to walk along the trails and then grab a bite at The Commons. It’s a fun community space where you can grab a bite and connect with people at their 18-foot tables.

What would you do if you have a free weekend in New Caanan?

As most busy moms a free weekend (sans kids) is a gift. My husband and I love to visit The Glass House, then have lunch at Baldanza Natural Cafe. We recently featured her on the site and I just love that she’s so down-to-earth and fantastically ambitious.
