At any given time, we’ve got a handful of ladybosses that we’re crushing on. Anine Bing is our current #1. Starting her career as a model at the age of 15, she sang in a band, relocated to LA, had two kids and started the most effortless and epic clothing line simply named, Anine Bing. Naturally. We truly just want to hang with her for a week (or two) and follow along as she glides around the globe spreading style wherever she goes. Read on…

I’m inspired by real women with a unique style.

You created your self-titled line in 2012. What was the pivotal moment that inspired you to create your own line?

I wanted to wear more of what I loved, but was having a hard time finding it so I just started making my own pieces – jackets, jeans, boots, basically what I wear every day. When I started seeing the response to that, and noticed my own little web store selling out in hours, I realized it was time to take the line to the next level.

What was the first piece that you created? Do you remember your first sale?

The first piece was denim – grey charcoal skinny pants with a side zip. The first sale was linen tee shirts and denim.

Do you have a company mantra or set of ideals that mean something to you? If so, what are they?

Most of all it’s important to me for my team to give 100% and work hard, but also to be happy when they come to work everyday. I always want a positive environment, and expect everyone to be supportive of each other, even on different teams, across different channels.

We love your Instagram and it seems that others do too – you have over 400k followers! Who do you look to for inspiration when so many are looking to you?

I love street style, that’s where I find most of my inspiration, not really on a specific website. It’s usually when I see someone cool on the actual street or online when I’m browsing around. I’m inspired by real women with a unique style.

Most of all it’s important to me for my team to give 100% and work hard, but also to be happy when they come to work everyday.

You have 8 stores worldwide. How do you determine where to open? Do you have more in the works?

It has happened organically, mostly. LA was first because we’re an LA-based brand, and of course, NYC came shortly after. We make sure we already have an engaged customer base, and then finding the right space is also key. Our plans are in the works right now but I’m hoping our next stop is Scandinavia!

Music has been such a big influence in your life. What was your first concert? What are you listening to on repeat right now?

It sounds funny but I’m really into classical music right now. Growing up, we were only allowed to listen to classical music at home, and I recently discovered it again and love it. After a stressful day, I love blasting it on the drive home, it’s so relaxing. I’m loving “The Four Seasons” by Vivaldi right now. I also tend to love mellow music like Cat Power, Mazzy Star, and I still love The Cranberries.

How would your best friend describe you? Your assistant? Your husband?

best friend = loving, driven, creative

assistant = hard working, approachable, always on the go

husband =  energetic and stubborn : )

LA seems to be the “hot” city right now and creatives are flocking to it in droves. Why do you think it’s having a “moment”? What do you love about LA?

It’s such a great place to be creatively. There are all these amazing artists, filmmakers, musicians, designers, and there’s inspiration everywhere. What I love most is that you can really be yourself and do your thing, without being judged. It’s also just a cool city with an amazing lifestyle that more and more people are drawn to.

What are your 5 favorite pieces from your line?

The charlie boots, our cropped moto jacket, delicate lace bra, vintage wash denim, and the new natalie boot in patent.

Follow your instincts. Don’t do what everyone else is doing or suggests, just listen to your own intuition.

If you could host your ideal dinner party, who would you invite (living or dead)?

I would definitely want Coco Chanel there to hear her stories! But mostly, I’d just want to be surrounded by family and friends who I don’t get to see as much as I’d like to because I’m so busy running my company. I was very close with my grandmother Elly, who passed away years ago and I would love nothing more than to sit around a dinner table with her again, with my kids and our friends around.

We love following your travels and are always looking for the next travel destination. What is on your list for 2017?

Copenhagen! It’s such a cool city to visit in the summer. I also really want to go to Italy this year as I’m dying for some pasta and gelato!

You love vintage shopping. What’s your favorite place to find vintage?

The Rosebowl Flea Market in LA.

3 pearls of wisdom

There's no right way to do it, no rule book, you just have to find out what works for you and your family.

Find the balance between work/other interests and motherhood. I'm a better mom because of my work and I'm better at work because I have my family too. The balance is key because you appreciate both worlds so much more.

Follow your instincts. Don't do what everyone else is doing or suggests, just listen to your own intuition. For example, I'm okay with my kids sleeping in the bed with us sometimes, even though some books probably suggest against it. They grow up so fast, so enjoy these things while they're young!
