Francis & Henry Founder Fashion Warsaw, Poland
About Aleksandra
My name is Aleksandra, I was born in Poland, and lived here for most of my life. Im the oldest of eight kids (7 girls and 1 boy!) and a mom of two '(for now ;)) I studied Social Psychology, but never actually worked in the field. Driven by the experiences with my pregnancies and deliveries, I started working on my own brand in 2015 and launched Francis & Henry, a maternity brand designing beautiful maternity and hospital bag essentials to help moms feel loved.

I believe it is so important for any human being to have a true feeling of self-worth, and self-love. This is something that lets you love and feel loved by others, and I find that it makes a lot of things easier to deal with. Because having a naturally positive, nonjudgemental attitude toward people around, has a huge impact on how you live your everyday life, by allowing you to BE and LIKE who you really are. It’s still a work in progress for me ;)

Best advice you've ever been given

To not get stuck on the details for too long. Try to look at what you’re doing from an objective perspective of a stranger - BUT a stranger who wishes you well.

What special skill, talent or gift would you like to give back to the community?

.

Personal Passions, Charities, Hobbies:

I always loved drawing, anything art and working-on-details-related. This was honestly the best part about starting Francis & Henry - the logo and print making. I’m hoping this area of my small business will be able to flourish and that eventually I’ll get to spend more time in the artistic creation process of it all.

What is your biggest business challenge right now?

Expanding our product portfolio.

Name one thing that scares the shit out of you:

Apart from spiders ;) I'm actually terrified of failure.

What is one thing that would be game-changing for your business right now?

One of the most exciting and gratifying parts about this business is the feeling after seeing your product, that you worked so hard on creating, actually being used and loved by the people it was made for - by mothers from all over the world. I will never forget when I saw an amazing mom blogger post a photo from her delivery room, wearing our nursing dress and robe and with her beautiful newborn wrapped in the blanket printed in hot air balloons that I drew! I also remember one mum whom I had always considered a “mother guru”on instagram, who wrote me an email after receiving one of our bundles, saying she has been pulling our nursing dress out of her laundry all week because that’s the only thing she wants to sleep in since her baby arrived. I can wish for right now is to reach more moms who would feel the same.

If you could tell your 20 year old self one thing, what would it be?

Not to worry so much about the small things...and that many of the "bigger things" usually turn out to be a lot smaller than I thought.

Why do you want to be a part of heymama?

I love your concept and the way you approach motherhood. I feel like motherhood is usually all about the kids. The way I experienced it was that it's hard finding balance between being a good mom and a woman, or yourself. My brand features products that were designed to make moms feel like themselves, feel loved and taken care of. Even though the brand is still very young and a small business (I still pack all my orders by myself / with my sisters help :), our concept and the pieces themselves have been so loved by the moms who found us - literally all over the globe. I would love to reach more moms and share both - my products as well as the experiences I have of starting a business.
