Alexis Barad-Cutler Content Creator/ Freelance Writer/ Author Writing Brooklyn, NY
About Alexis
I am a content creator, essayist, writer-for-hire, and published children's book author. I love connecting to people via honest, relatable writing about sometimes uncomfortable topics that can lead to great conversations. I worked for over a decade in the publishing industry as a children's book editor, but quit the corporate world for the freelance life when I had my first child. I've been juggling how to be a Creative and also maintain some kind of part-time SAHM identity ever since. All tips welcome!

Whenever you feel stuck or unhappy, even the smallest shift (in thought or behavior) can make a world of difference.

Best advice you've ever been given

I had a yoga teacher who gave me great advice that I’ve found it helpful as an overachiever and hyper focused person in general: Do less.

What special skill, talent or gift would you like to give back to the community?

I can write your pants off and create any kind of content you need for your brand or business. I can find the story in just about any project or brand and capture a brand's voice in a unique way that will engage audiences and help grow business.

Personal Passions, Charities, Hobbies:

I enjoy supporting charities such as the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation, The Center for Reproductive Rights, The Human Rights Campaign, and the UJA Federation, and many other charities. My hobbies include aerial dance and silks, writing and editing children’s books, and seeking out the perfect dirty gin martini.

What is your biggest business challenge right now?

Marketing & Social Media

Name one thing that scares the shit out of you:

The health and wellness of my children and family.

If you could tell your 20 year old self one thing, what would it be?

Find the mentors. Not the ones who just “say” they want to mentor, but the ones that actually love doing it.

Why do you want to be a part of heymama?

The value of my work is measured in how readers connect to it. I'm looking to reach more women who are looking for a voice to help open conversations they may not be able to articulate or navigate themselves in the context of their own businesses or sites.
