Alliance Consumer Growth LLC Chief Financial Officer Finance Pound Ridge, NY
About Alyssa
My first job out of college was at Bear Stearns (was not for me) and I ended up quitting and moving back in with my partners after about 2 years. It was a big organization and one that was very male-dominated and just wasn't the right place for me. I really did not know what I wanted to do but decided to take a risk and become an intern at a food start-up called Bear Naked (granola) and moved to California for a few months to sell granola to Whole Foods stores. I worked my way up in the organization and in less than 2 years was reporting to the head of Finance. The company sold to Kashi (Kellog) and at the time I was getting my MBA part-time at NYU Stern. I petitioned to accelerate and graduated in a year and half with a MBA specializing in Finance & Entrepreneurship. Soon after graduation (and my wedding), the people I had worked with at Bear Naked asked if we would be open to move to Boulder, CO for another food start-up opportunity called EVOL Foods (maker of organic/natural frozen foods). There I worked my way up to the CFO role (creating the accounting and finance department from the ground up) and ran the company with the Founder/CEO. We sold EVOL to Boulder Brands (when I was 8 months pregnant btw) and I continued working at Boulder Brands post acquisition and maternity leave. After almost 6 years in Boulder, my husband and I decided it was time to be closer to family so we decided to move back East in 2015. At the time I had stayed in touch with the Private Equity company that had invested in EVOL (ACG - now my current employer) and when I mentioned I was moving back East, they asked if I wanted to join their team. Their first official permanent hire. I've been there for over 3 years now as the CFO, but work very closely with the companies we have invested in (beauty, food, cosmetics, etc). Taking that leap to quit my job and become an intern at a small start-up was the catalyst for the rest of my career. An example of why taking risks is important.

What special skill, talent or gift would you like to give back to the community?

I've seen a lot of companies make mistakes early on and have made some myself as I've learned/grown in my career. I think I could help others that are starting out think through things and potentially minimize the mistakes they make or at least help with some of the hurdles as I've been threw it before. I would love to be a resource and am looking for ways to feel like I can make a difference.

What is your biggest business challenge right now?

Hiring / Talent Acquisition
