Alyssa Kerbel

mini mioche Founder & President Fashion Los Angeles (and vicinity), California
About Alyssa
Hi, my name is Alyssa and I am a wife, mom of two amazing kiddos and would also consider myself to be a serial entrepreneur.

Prior to starting mini mioche, I owned & operated a wholesale fashion agency for 13 years that I started in my late 20's. I started mini mioche (while still running the agency business) a decade ago right after I had my daughter and found it really difficult to find simple, high quality, soft, gender-neutral basics to dress her in.

From the very beginning, I made the conscious decision that we would do things differently - using only organic cotton and other sustainable fabrics and making everything in a transparent and ethical way in Canada (which we still do today). Even our organic fabrics are knit exclusively for us from start to finish in Toronto. We also do not ship anything in plastic and use recycled materials for all of our hangtags, postcards and other marketing materials. It has always been a priority for us to run our business as sustainably as possible.

I sold my agency business four years ago to focus full-time on mini mioche and in the time since the company has grown over 700%. Our brand consists of the best fashion basics and wardrobe staples for little ones newborn to 12 years.

We currently operate 2 brick & mortar stores in Toronto and just opened our first retail shop in the new Palisades Village complex in Los Angeles. We also sell through our online shop minimioche.com.

What special skill, talent or gift would you like to give back to the community?

My own experience as an entrepreneur is probably the thing I can contribute most to this group. I have learned so much over the past 10 years running mini mioche and the previous 7 running my wholesale agency, and I am an open book - very willing to share the ups & downs, what I have learned and the (many) mistakes I have made. It is not an easy road to be sure, but having the support and guidance from others who have 'been there/done that' has been so instrumental in my own success and I want to pay that forward.

What is your biggest business challenge right now?

Leadership & Scale

Why do you want to be a part of heymama?

With our recent expansion to the US market (with the US store and the launch of our US Ecommerce site), I am hoping to get involved with a group of like-minded entrepreneurial women who might be able to help us build brand awareness and visibility for mm and who in turn, I may be able to also help based on my 20+ year track record of successful entrepreneurship. It's really challenging cracking a new market and getting the word out- especially when you are boot-strapping it and don't have tons of VC money behind you. Much of my prior success has come from surrounding myself with a tribe of like-minded spirits who are willing to help each other succeed - both in life and in business and that's what I am primarily looking for in joining.

xx Alyssa Kerbel
