"Say what you mean, mean what you say."
As an established interior designer, I always heard my mother say, "It's all about mixing the diamonds with the zircons and making them all look like diamonds". You can obviously see the direct correlation and significance this plays in my business as well as personal style. Beyond being an adage that refers to aesthetics, I interpret it in a broader perspective. Life, family, business...it all comes with its stresses, challenges, and most importantly moments of extreme virtue and beauty. I really love and appreciate every turn along the path and am learning how to appreciate being "in the moment".
In the recent past I have worked with United Cerebral Palsy, Wheels for Humanity, which provides wheelchairs to handicap children in 3rd world countries, and Phase One Foundation, which funds early cancer research studies across Southern California institutions. I am interested in also connecting with an organization that focuses on the highly visible homeless epidemic throughout Los Angeles.
Personally, I love trying new restaurants with my hubby and friends. Also, nothing beats sharing stories and laughter with loved ones over an amazing charcuterie platter and a glass (or two) of wine!
As for personal goals, I want to gain more calm. I tend to run anxious about the well being of my children, my husband...the world! I think a part of creating a sense of calm is attaining more balance, adding in some more girl time and ME time!
As for business goals, it is really about sales. Exposing my unique business model to more people to retain a broader customer base is key! Which of course means networking and being creative in ways to get my brand into more communities.
Truthfully, meeting new people. I am not polished at "small talk" which is why I want to be a part of Hey Mama. Instead of just accepting it as one of my deficiencies, I really want to push myself to hone that skill so that I actually learn to embrace it. And, I would like to enjoy it rather than force myself into that environment just because it can potentially be good for my business.
We all know that in this day and age it is all about exposure. Receiving a high profile endorsement which would create engagement could surely take my brand to the next level through the multiple digital platforms I engage in daily.
Never say never. On my first phone interview to be the Senior Jewelry Buyer for Anthropologie, I told them I didn't want to waste their time because I was never going to move to Philadelphia. Fast forward 6 months later I was a newlywed who moved cross country while 8 weeks pregnant during the coldest winter Philly had seen in 10 years. It ended up being one of the best experiences both professionally and personally of my life, and since then I have taken every email and phone call to explore any opportunity that has come my way. My younger self was definitely more close minded. I would tell her that opportunities can blossom when you keep your mind open rather than negating them in your head thinking you "know it all".
When I was learning about Hey Mama I found it inspiring and would love to be associated with a group of powerful, creative, smart, driven women who also take an interest in being involved in the daily lives of their children.
