Simplicity is one of my core values, so my mantra this year has been, "What's easy? What's simple? What's good?" When I find myself stuck in indecision or paralyzed by overwhelm, these questions bring me the clarity and direction I''m seeking.
I need a long run, a bottle of kombucha, and a good belly laugh with my daughters to feel like my day is complete. I hoard paper goods and still send snail mail. I believe you can't ever have too many dresses and I live to host casual dinner parties for friends. And, even though I'm a big reader, I also have a soft spot for what my husband calls "prime time soap operas".
I have many goals for the business year (who doesn't?!), but they all fall under one umbrellla. My goal is to give generously to creative women entrepreneurs so they can see with the right support, their dreams and goals are well within their reach.
On a day to day basis, heights terrify me. In the bigger picture, one thing that scares the shit out of me is the possibility of being mother-less someday. My mom lost her mother at a young age and I can’t imagine going through life without my mom’s wisdom, guidance and support. I am grateful for it – and for her – every day.
Systems and support are key to being able to grow my business and both of those areas need a little love right now. Having more systems and support on the administrative side of my business will free me up to do more of what I love: coaching and creating with other women.
I would tell that 20 year old girl, you do not have to do everything yourself. In my first business, I wore all the hats. I did the writing, the accounting, the transcribing, the invoicing, the marketing, the pitching and so much more. I thought I had to do it all in order to pay my dues and earn my success as an entrepreneur.
What I know now is that it’s far more savvy to give your time and attention to the things that only you can do – the things that make your business thrive – and hire support to manage everything else.
I'm a connector at heart and am drawn to groups of bold, talented, creative women who are seeking collaboration and community. I believe in collaboration over competition. And, like heymama, my business is all about taking a stand to empower and inspire moms to go do their work in the world and create something beautiful for themselves and their families.
