Rookie Humans Owner Interiors/Home Maplewood, NEW JERSEY
About Gabriela
Originally from Uruguay, I have been living in the United States for the past 20 years (except for 2 years in France when my 1st baby was born). I was living in NYC when the idea for Rookie Humans was born. I had started applying for jobs after a 3 year maternity leave gap and finding it impossible to pick up where I left off. So I decided to make lemonade out of lemons and became an entrepreneur.

Best advice you've ever been given

I would say it's a piece of advice that has been reiterated to me throughout my whole life. Not to take rejection personally, and not to make decisions based on pleasing everybody. To listen to my intuition and believe in myself.

What special skill, talent or gift would you like to give back to the community?

I always love connecting with moms looking to start their own company, or moms who are also bootstrapping their business to share experiences and resources. My background is in advertising and digital strategy.

Personal Passions, Charities, Hobbies:

To be honest, I don't have hobbies any more. I spend my whole day split between work and being a mom. I look forward to having more time to dedicate to hobbies and passion points as my kids get older and my business makes it past the start up stage.

What is your biggest business challenge right now?

Leadership & Scale

Name one thing that scares the shit out of you:

In business, making an expensive manufacturing mistake.

What is one thing that would be game-changing for your business right now?

Finding the right team/resources to scale my business

If you could tell your 20 year old self one thing, what would it be?

Life will exceed expectations

Why do you want to be a part of heymama?

I am such an advocate for mompreneurs, I love networking and helping lift each other up. I already have a small group of mompreneurs with whom I consult and share experiences with and would love to expand that network. I'm always grateful for the opportunity to give and take advice.
