Jennifer McAllister-Nevins

Savor co-Fouder, CEO Retail New York, NY
About Jennifer
I'm sort of an accidental entrepreneur. I spent most of my life doing social justice work, as a public interest lawyer at the ACLU and elsewhere. But at a play date one day, a friend and I ended up talking about that big plastic tub we each had at the top of our closet filled with our favorite family memories that were a big fat mess. We decided we could make it easier for people to organize and save these precious treasures. We wanted people to enjoy their family memories, not feel guilty about them. Since then, we've developed savor into a place for saving and celebrating all sorts of family memories, from school projects to weddings to baby's first Christmas.

What special skill, talent or gift would you like to give back to the community?

I'm a connector by nature. Not just because I build relationships, but because I'm a matchmaker between people. I'm sure this doesn't make me unusual, but I have developed a product from soup to nuts. I work directly with a factory and have developed a direct to consumer business, largely on my own. From social advertising to web design to product manufacturing to Amazon to warehousing and shipping, there's pretty much no part of the business I haven't had to figure out myself (often the hard way, so I think I could be a good mentor for someone starting out.

What is your biggest business challenge right now?

Leadership & Scale

What is one thing that would be game-changing for your business right now?

Having a crack marketing person on board. Getting our next line of products out the door.

Why do you want to be a part of heymama?

My partner left this year to do full-time work, and I realized that too often, it's just me at a computer working. I need to get out and mix and share ideas and build off energy from other women who are doing what I'm doing.
