Jessica Curtis (Johnson)

CBRE Senior Vice President, Restaurant Practice Leader - Emerging Concepts Food Wilton, CT
About Jessica
I’m an entrepreneurial mother/real estate exec, with an amazing stay-at-home husband. I love my job - which is basically assisting retailers and restaurants with their growth strategies across the United States. I have worked with brands from Bartaco to Lacoste to Shake Shack. I spend a lot of time in major and secondary cities - exploring (and dining) my way through. I’m passionate about restaurants, hospitality/travel, wellness and of course, my kids. Looking to meet other high-performing moms (Aren’t we all?)

Be persistent, be empathetic and wear what you want.

Best advice you've ever been given

Business Wise - Take the total amount of money you want to make in a year. Now take the total numbers of hours you are willing to work in a year and divide it. That’s your hourly rate. If at any point in time, you are doing something that isn’t generating you income that is at or above the hourly rate - drop it and move on.”

Personally - My grandmother - “Don’t worry about what anyone else thinks. Wear what you want.”

What special skill, talent or gift would you like to give back to the community?

I love my job because it allows me to actually energize neighborhoods in interesting ways by bringing fresh food and beverage or entertainment concepts to a given market. On the giving back side, though, one of my goals for this year is to get more involved in a food related charity, like Food Rescue US. I have so many contacts in the F&B space and it seems like such a tragedy that we aren’t successfully feeding everyone in a world where we have more than enough.

Personal Passions, Charities, Hobbies:

My children first, but I love to cook, exercise, travel, explore. I’m finally getting back into reading real books with paper pages and it’s like being reunited with a long lost friend. I donate to many charities throughout the year, but prefer children’s charities or those that tackle basic needs like hunger (Food Reacue) or reading (Literacy Volunteers is America.). Last year, I collected baby carriers for Syrian refugees. That felt very rewarding.

What is your biggest business challenge right now?

Saying “no” when the opportunity before me doesn’t suit my goals or align with my business plan. I always want to help and I care so much about my relationships, that it’s sometimes to my own detriment.

Name one thing that scares the shit out of you:

The concept of me or my children dying. The thought of final separation torments me.

What is one thing that would be game-changing for your business right now?

One stellar partner who could steer me at a 10,000 ft view.

If you could tell your 20 year old self one thing, what would it be?

Be thoughtful with your sexuality. It can be a tool for good or bad. And put a bra on!!

Why do you want to be a part of heymama?

Because it so difficult to connect with successful, like-minded mothers...
