STATE Bags & Sprezzatura CEO & Founder/CEO Fashion New York, NY
About Jessica
I'm a new mom to a baby boy named Asher and live in Manhattan with him and my husband, Nick. I've been a serial entrepreneur since I was 22 when I started my first company, The Edge, an elite educational consulting company focused on test prep and college admissions counseling. I then founded a venture-backed ed tech company, Admittedly, which was acquired in 2016. After Admittedly, I launched a strategic advisory firm called Sprezzatura, and recently became CEO of one of my client's companies, STATE Bags. I also have a patent pending on a garment hanger for long dresses - so stay tuned for that to launch in 2019!

What special skill, talent or gift would you like to give back to the community?

I'm a wizard at time management and have become pretty good at the operational and financial sides of being a CEO. I find that when you start a company (or at least for me), you don't start a business because you're passionate about operations and processes, you launch it because you're passionate about the product or service, and yet you're forced to be good at ALL the things. One of the things that I really hated when I was CEO of my first company was the finance and ops responsibilities, but I've come to realize that those are key to successful growth and now have grown to LOVE them and would love to help other mamas learn to love them and use them as their weapons.

What is your biggest business challenge right now?

Balancing Work & Motherhood

Why do you want to be a part of heymama?

Becoming a mom 2 months ago was by far the best thing that has ever happened to me and I would love to join a community of other working moms to share stories and tips, advise where I can since I've made my fair share of mistakes, and support other female-led businesses!
