About Mariana
Born in Buenos Aires, my family immigrated to NJ when I was 7. This was at a time when no one in my town knew where in the world Argentina was or what language we spoke. I grew up feeling different from the rest of my girlfriends and finally found my home when I moved to NYC. I met my husband Andrew (whose family emigrated from the UK to Australia when he was 7) at a dinner shortly after I moved to Manhattan. We started dating that same night and have been together since! This past February, we welcomed our baby girl Mikaela Luisa into the world and we have been trying to navigate work, family, friends and parenthood. I'm a dreamer and a lover who's always on the go and while I am still figuring everything out, I know I am where I am supposed to be. I consider myself a semi-free spirit who's not afraid to try new things and explore new places! My family keeps me grounded and happy; while my work keeps me intrigued and agile. I don't see problems, only solutions and I hope to be a positive force in my new baby's life.

Best advice you've ever been given

Don't be afraid to try and fail. It is in these attempts and subsequent failures that you will learn your most valuable lessons and figure out how to make what you are truly destined to do work.

Personal Passions, Charities, Hobbies:

I am very passionate about animals, travel, cooking and people. I love hosting dinners at our apartment with our friends and experimenting with new recipes. Every Thursday I volunteer at my local soup kitchen where we cook a 4 course, home made lunch for about 75-100 guests. It's a small soup kitchen where our guests are regulars, they know all of us by name and we know all of them and they come to enjoy the food. I also love scrapbooking and journaling.

What do you want to achieve in 2018, personally and professionally?

This year I am looking to lay down the groundwork that will transform my business from a B2B that supports designers to a B2C. I'm creating a platform that will elevate the jewelry shopping experience, allowing consumers to be a part of the jewelry design process by customizing their own jewelry. The site will allow consumers to see the changes they make to the piece in real time and be a part of the production process that blends modern 3D printing with ancient casting techniques, by following their piece every step of the way from design to delivery.

Name one thing that scares the shit out of you:

Not trying!

What is one thing that would be game-changing for your business right now?

The planning and executing of my new web platform.

If you could tell your 20 year old self one thing, what would it be?

Don't try to be everything to everyone because you will end up being nothing to yourself.

Why do you want to be a part of heymama?

As a new mom and entrepreneur, I am looking to link up with other women who are also navigating this world. I hope to learn and grow from the amazing women that get up every day and put themselves out there. I'm looking for a community of women that understand the everyday struggles of pulling all nighters for deadlines after cooking dinner, women that take conference calls while breastfeeding because they do not want to lose who they are for mommyhood or miss out on mommyhood for work. I want to be a part of a community that knows that because we are women we CAN do it all and while no one said it was going to be easy, we do say it is doable. I am inspired by hard-working, caring women that contribute to society and as a mom of a little girl, hope to lead by example and show Mikaela a world where women are supportive of each other.
