Tinybeans Founder Tech New York, NY
About Sarah-Jane
Hi! I’m an English girl, living in New York with my husband and 2 kids. We seem to have a thing for places beginning with B. So far we've lived in Brighton, Bondi, and now, Brooklyn. We're missing the beach in Australia, but we're loving exploring NY and having more adventures as a family.
I co-founded Tinybeans in 2012 as a way for parents to keep all their precious memories in one safe space. We floated the company in Australia this year and now have over 2 million users round the world. It still feels like just the start though.

"Be kind. Be patient. Be tough. " I've learnt that kindness goes a long way in life and business. No matter how hard you work, you're going to need patience. And the will to keep going every day even when you want to stay in bed and everything feels too hard.

Best advice you've ever been given

I'm 40 years old but I still get told off by my Dad for saying 'bloody'. Still, the best advice was from him and it was always to have a 'F*** You Fund' in the bank. He taught me that money won't make you happy but having no money will make you unhappy. Because of that, I've been able to walk away from jobs and situations I hated and boot-strap Tinybeans for 3 years.

Personal Passions, Charities, Hobbies:

I love surfing with my kids, photography, reading and eating. I've been supporting an amazing Aussie-based charity called Rafiki Mwema that works with very young girls who have been sexually abused in Kenya. The stories are heartbreaking but the charity is beautiful. They've just started working with young boys too. My very first adventure was when I was 19 and went to Africa. I had such a life-changing experience and feel such a connection to that part of the continent. I hope I can do more for them in the future.

Name one thing that scares the shit out of you:

I was in Bali on a post-graduation trip when my mum died. The thought of not being there again when my family needs me scares the shit out of me.

What is one thing that would be game-changing for your business right now?

We need to grow our brand awareness. We're looking to find the right influencers to help us spread the word about Tinybeans.

If you could tell your 20 year old self one thing, what would it be?

Stop trying to figure out what is the right way to do things. The only way is what feels right at the time and nearly everyone you admire is winging it just like you are.

Why do you want to be a part of heymama?

As a New York newbie, I'm keen to meet other entrepreneurs growing businesses and juggling life, to inspire each other, laugh about mistakes and help keep each other going when it gets tough - which it will.
