About Suzy
On an adventure with my husband as we moved ourselves to London, where we've had our first son and are now expecting our second.

I'm passionate about finding ways to continue to learn and grow, to be a part of communities that support and empower one another to be their best self. While my career has been focused on HR, I've spent time getting certified as a floral designer, yoga teacher and even took an introductory graphic design course. I'm a novice baker, a hopeless dreamer and a lover of traveling and living abroad.

If you find yourself across the pond, let me know! Always love to meet other HeyMamas.

Best advice you've ever been given

Oh gosh, I feel like I'm given good nuggets of advice on the daily. One piece of advice one of my first managers gave me was that the best time to make a life change, whether career or personal, is when you are in a place of contentment. If you can make decisions from a place like that more often, then you tend to be more discerning and make better choices. Since I've been in recruitment for ages, I feel like I see people make job changes when they're really unhappy - which, often leads them to maybe take another job that they have red flags with. I think the advice she gave me really spoke to me, and I've tried to channel when making big decisions in my life.

What special skill, talent or gift would you like to give back to the community?

Listening and support. If anyone needs career advice, resume review, interview training, or just a shoulder to lean on - I'm here.

Personal Passions, Charities, Hobbies:

After returning from London where I had an amazing pregnancy and birth experience, I've become quite passionate about advocating for better flexible working options for mothers, as well as better maternity leave. This is probably the thing that is closest to my heart right now, as I felt the UK did such a great job with offering extended maternity leave, great care during pregnancy and those days right after birth (midwives come to you the first 10 days), and they even have groups you can join where you meet other parents about to have children around the same time. I've become a Peanut App Ambassador as I'm now in Boulder, and feel it's insanely hard to meet people - and, want to make sure women have the opportunity to connect with other women and advocate for one another. I could probably go on and on about this, and I'm sure most women would as well, but this is probably my biggest passion project right now - helping women/soon to be mamas/mamas arm themselves with the knowledge and materials to go into their workplaces and advocate for better options for themselves. I also love to swim, as I was a synchronized swimmer for many years. There's nothing like being weightless and dancing in water or just cruising a long. I still love to do yoga as well, as it's a way to quiet the noise for me and just have some time to center myself.

What is your biggest business challenge right now?

Balancing Work & Motherhood

Name one thing that scares the shit out of you:

AH! There are so many. From going through labor again to continuing to be out on my own career wise to where are we going to live? These three things definitely scare the shit out of me right now.

If you could tell your 20 year old self one thing, what would it be?

You do you. I remember in my 20s I felt like I was getting advice from literally everyone around me. My parents, siblings, colleagues and friends. I feel like if I had listened to my inner voice more, I would have created something for myself earlier on. Props to those that I see who've freelanced or created their own businesses so early on!

Why do you want to be a part of heymama?

This community of women is smart, driven, creative and invested. I am so looking forward to being a part of an incredible community.
