About Talia
I moved down to Miami from New York about a year and a half ago, right before my son was born. We lived in Manhattan and then Brooklyn for about 10 years total; living for the grind, and loving every (well not every) New York minute.

My entire career thus far has been focused on brand building, direction and expansion from both the wholesaler and brand side. Over the course the past decade I was responsible for making sure all aspects of the business - creative, finance, legal, operations, production, design & sales - were all running like a well-oiled machine and exploiting all opportunities available for growth. I’ve had the good fortune of working for some of the top manufacturers in the industry and helping grow several leading fashion, sport and character brands across the retail landscape.

My educational background is in fine arts. I grew up in a very artistic environment, with encouragement to pursue art and all things creative. I consistently looked at the world through a different lens; a subjective vantage point. Throughout my entire academic career, I have always taken art classes and was involved in after school and summer art programs. This led me to a bachelor's degree in studio art, with a focus on drawing and photography.

I have recently partnered with a friend to build out a creative agency of sorts, Straat Studios. Our focus is on street art - we are currently collaborating with different art platforms, partnering with private collectors to build out their portfolios, manage artists and other exciting projects coming down the pike.

What special skill, talent or gift would you like to give back to the community?

These past couple of years has been been both the hardest and most rewarding thus far. My mother passed away of cancer when I was 7 months pregnant. At the time, we were living in NY and my parents lived in Miami. Our plan all along was to move back to
Miami when we had kids to be closer to family. The irony did not escape me.

Working full-time, traveling back and forth from NY to Miami to figure out our move, while trying to spend as much time with my mother as possible, while taking care of my very pregnant self was a true test of character.

My son gave me strength I never knew existed. I had to be the best me for him. Although I had lost my mother just a few shorts months prior to his birth, he gave me a brand new reason to live life to the fullest.

While I feel fully confident I am able to offer advice and mentorship with my professional background on brand building, licensing & creative ventures, I also know I can support women with personal hardships and challenges.

Supporting people, whether they are close friends or someone I just met is equally as rewarding for myself. I have built internal tools over the years to help not only cope with life's stressors, but to exceed my personal expectations.

What is your biggest business challenge right now?

Why do you want to be a part of heymama?

Just that, a community. I think it's vital for women to support each other and to feel a sense of empowerment. It's challenging enough as a woman in the workforce before kids to feel fully confident in all you do professionally. But once you throw motherhood into the mix, all the while rebuilding and relearning yourself emotionally, physically, spiritually & professionally, it's a whole lot. Having the encouragement and mentorship of other professional mothers is truly priceless.
