Wendy Heilbut

Jayaram Law Founder of NY Office & Of Counsel Legal New York, New York
About Wendy
I've traveled many circles to land where I am - but, in short, I left BigLaw when I had my first child and didn't look back. 2 years ago, I realized I wanted a change after nearly 7 years "home"; -- don't get me wrong -- I'd invested so much in my family; started a non-profit; launched and watched die a start-up with a friend; ran every event and program at our preschool, but I wanted my own career again. In Jan. 2017 I opened the NY office of a boutique Chicago-based firm a friend had started 8 years prior. This past 1.5 years of on-ramping and building this business has been a hustle but SUCH a joy.

What special skill, talent or gift would you like to give back to the community?

Legal skills - I work with tons of early- and growth-stage companies as well as have a deep knowledge of IP, I'm also an angel investor with 37 Angels and would love to help moms looking for funding.

What is your biggest business challenge right now?

The juggle, the balance, the focus, how to properly scale.

What do you want to achieve in 2018, personally and professionally?

Professionally - I want to continue to grow my business. I want to focus this back half of 2018 on my personal image and who I am as a woman in this industry and this time. Personally - I want to be more present in everything I do.

What is one thing that would be game-changing for your business right now?

New accounts, new clients, new intros. I love meeting new organizations I can help (incubators, accelerators, etc.).

Why do you want to be a part of heymama?

For the support of other driven moms. I've found some other woman-centric groups I love, but its the fellow-mom support I crave. Also, in the current conversation about equality the voice of the MOM seems missing. I'd love to be part of making that voice stronger. We deserve parity (obvi!) but biologically it is different for us. How do we talk about this!? Where do we start!?
