We love spending the majority of the day out in the sun! Our favorite things would include ferry rides to Dumbo to ride the carousel and grab an ice cream or picnicking on Governors Island. We also love early morning trips to Coney Island or venturing Upstate for a little hike. The sprinklers at the park are pretty great and thankfully, we’re lucky enough for our backyard to be the Long Island City Waterfront, which is where you can often find us, scooting along the pier or playing in the park.
My goal is for things to not change that much. It will, of course, take better planning and prep to get out the door, but I still plan to get out at least once a day. Living right next to the ferry enables me to be mobile with a double stroller in tow, in ways the subway never could, so we are lucky in that regard. We’re also looking forward to the east river ferry expanding to Astoria and northern Manhattan, giving us access to new neighborhoods to explore.
Sunscreen is a must! People often think because I have darker skin, that I don’t have to worry about the sun, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. All shades must protect their skin from the sun, plus I have a slight allergy to the sun and if I don’t keep sunscreen on I break out in hives. Also, accessories are so fun to stay safe in the sun too… who doesn’t love a good sun hat and sunnies combo?!
Sunscreen, sunglasses, lip gloss, cell phone, diapers, wipes and water!
We sing songs! But luckily my son loves lotion so he doesn’t fight too much. Supergoop! just came out with the awesome mousse sunscreen which he’s wild for, so it’s made it even easier. As long as it’s fast, fun, and doesn’t interfere too much with his playtime he’s into it.
Breakfast with my husband and son outside at our favorite spot in Brooklyn, Five Leaves (their pancakes are the best!), followed by a ferry trip to Governors Island for some outdoor fun. We then head home for late naps, and mama can sneak one in too! We’d then have dinner on the balcony and take a walk along the pier before bedtime. Simple, yet perfect.
Anything non-maternity! But since I’ll be going through the “4th trimester”, I’m planning to keep it simple. Loose fitting tops with cut-off shorts and flowy dresses will be my go-to.
I’m not sure when it will happen, but my dream vacation with my little ones would be two weeks in Japan, with a day at Tokyo Disney as a part of our itinerary.
